Disappointment

Image

I know what disappointment feels like.

It’s when the pit of your stomach falls away,

and you clutch at your gut in the almost physical pain.

It’s when you wish you hadn’t drunk the happy juice

because when the bubbles fade,

your body craves for something

you can’t always have.

It’s when your mouth hangs open,

as if you meant to say something,

but no words come.  Your tongue

jangles with emotions,

but it is heavy as lead

and in silence mourns the dead muscle

that used to be your heart.
